Punam Raut announced her retirement from international cricket on Thursday, bringing an end to her 12-year association with the Indian women's cricket team. The out-of-favour batter, who last represented India in 2021, made the announcement through a social media post, citing personal reflection as the reason for her decision.
Raut compiled an impressive international record across multiple formats during her career spanning from 2009 to 2021. She featured in four Test matches, 73 one-day internationals, and 35 Twenty20 internationals for the national side. The veteran opening batter was known for her technical approach and consistency at the top of the order.
In her retirement announcement, Raut expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to represent India, describing it as the greatest honour of her life. She acknowledged the profound impact cricket has had on her personal development, highlighting how the sport shaped her character and built resilience. She also extended her thanks to the Mumbai Cricket Association, crediting the domestic franchise with playing a crucial role in nurturing her cricket career during her early years.
Raut joins a growing list of Indian women cricketers who have stepped away from international competition in recent years as the sport continues to evolve at the national level.
