Indian women's table tennis team advances to Asiad quarterfinals; men eliminated
India's women's table tennis team secured a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Thailand to progress to the quarterfinals at the 2026 Asian Games. The men's team, however, bowed out after suffering a 0-3 defeat to South Korea in the round of 16.

At the Sky Hall in Bangkok, the Indian women's contingent edged past their Thai counterparts in a closely contested team event on Tuesday. Sreeja Akula opened proceedings with a grueling 3-2 victory over Orawan Paranang (11-7, 11-1, 9-11, 6-11, 12-10), requiring all five games to secure the opening point.
Yashaswini Ghorpade extended India's lead with a similarly competitive 3-2 win against Suthasini Sawettabut (11-5, 5-11, 7-11, 11-9, 11-9). However, Diya Chitale's defeat to Jinnipa Sawettabut (2-3, with scores 7-11, 11-5, 11-7, 7-11, 11-13) brought the tally to 2-1 in India's favor before Ghorpade sealed the quarterfinal berth with a dominant straight-sets performance in the fourth match.
The men's team faced a contrasting fate against South Korea, registering a whitewash in the round-of-16 encounter. The loss marked India's second defeat in the group stage, following an earlier setback against Ireland, effectively ending their campaign at the continental championship.
