Indigenous college students deliver aid to remote Iligan community

ILIGAN CITY — College-age volunteers from the Higaonon indigenous community carried out an outreach program in remote Sitio Limunsudan, Barangay Rogongon, on October 24, delivering school supplies, textbooks, clothing, and basic health services to local children.

The activity was organized as part of the annual observance of Indigenous Peoples' Month, which celebrates the heritage and contributions of the Philippines' native populations. Organizers mobilized young people from various communities across the city to participate in the relief effort.

The initiative drew participants from different cultural and religious backgrounds, including Muslims and Christians, demonstrating broad community support for addressing educational disparities in remote areas. The distribution of learning materials addresses persistent gaps in school access for children in isolated communities.

The outreach reflects growing efforts by indigenous youth organizations to leverage education and community engagement in improving conditions in underserved regions. Similar programs have become increasingly common during IP Month celebrations across Mindanao and other regions with significant indigenous populations.
