An IndiGo flight operating between Patna and Lucknow encountered a lightning strike while cruising at around 17,000 feet on Tuesday, as the aircraft navigated through poor weather conditions in the region.
The aircraft was in the midst of deteriorating weather when the electrical discharge struck the plane. Despite the incident, the flight crew maintained control of the aircraft and initiated descent procedures.
The flight was successfully diverted to Lucknow where it touched down without further complications. All passengers and crew members on board remained safe throughout the incident. There were no reports of injuries or structural damage to the aircraft.
Lightning strikes on aircraft are not uncommon during monsoon and pre-monsoon seasons across India. Modern commercial aircraft are equipped with lightning protection systems designed to safely dissipate electrical charges. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
