IndiGo to Relocate 12 International Flights to Navi Mumbai Airport

IndiGo, India's largest airline by market share, has announced plans to relocate 12 international flights to Navi Mumbai International Airport as part of broader efforts to decongest the primary Mumbai airport. The repositioning of these services marks a significant step in distributing traffic across the dual-airport system now serving India's financial capital.

The shift to Navi Mumbai, which commenced operations in late 2023, will enable IndiGo to optimize its network while relieving pressure on the existing Mumbai airport infrastructure. With the primary airport operating near full capacity during peak hours, the relocation addresses a critical bottleneck affecting both domestic and international operations across the region.

The move aligns with aviation authorities' strategy to establish Navi Mumbai as a secondary hub to manage growing passenger demand in the Mumbai metropolitan area. By distributing international flight operations between the two facilities, airlines can improve turnaround times and enhance scheduling flexibility for regional and long-haul services.

IndiGo's decision reflects the broader industry trend toward maximizing capacity utilization at newly developed airports in India's tier-one cities. The carrier's 12 international routes represent a substantial portion of the initial load being transferred to Navi Mumbai, with potential for further expansion as the airport ramps up operations.
