Indonesia gas supply dip poses minimal impact on Singapore: EMA

The Energy Market Authority (EMA) has moved to reassure Singapore about the impact of reduced gas supplies from Indonesia, characterising the shortfall as manageable and well within the island's supply resilience.

According to the EMA, the reduction in Indonesian gas represents less than 2 per cent of Singapore's total daily gas demand. The modest scale of the supply adjustment is unlikely to affect the broader energy market or consumer supply, the regulator indicated.

The EMA emphasised that it maintains robust contingency plans to address potential reductions in gas supplies from any source. These measures are designed to ensure stable energy supply across Singapore's economy, which relies on natural gas for power generation and industrial processes.

Indonesia remains a significant supplier of liquefied natural gas to Singapore and the wider region. The EMA's statement underscores the importance of Singapore's diversified energy sourcing strategy and its preparedness to manage supply volatility from key trading partners.
