Fire emissions originating from Indonesia between September 1 and 7 climbed to 19.7 million metric tonnes, representing the highest concentration of wildfire pollution recorded globally during that period, according to emissions data.

The seven-day total accounted for more than a third of worldwide fire emissions, highlighting the disproportionate impact of Indonesian wildfires on regional and global air quality. The spike coincided with the height of the dry season, when conditions are particularly conducive to the rapid spread and intensity of fires across the archipelago.
