Indonesia urges umrah pilgrims to avoid transiting through Singapore, Malaysia

Indonesian Deputy Minister of Hajj Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak has urged umrah pilgrims to take direct flights to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia rather than routing through regional hubs.

The official's appeal comes as part of efforts to streamline travel arrangements for Indonesian citizens undertaking the Islamic pilgrimage. Simanjuntak recommended that pilgrims opt for domestic carriers offering non-stop services to their holy destinations.

The guidance suggests positioning direct flights as a more efficient option for umrah travellers, potentially reducing transit-related complications and travel time to Saudi Arabia.

Umrah, the lesser pilgrimage to Islam's holiest sites, attracts hundreds of thousands of Indonesian worshippers annually. The directive reflects Jakarta's focus on improving the logistics and efficiency of religious travel for its citizens.
