Indonesian father sentenced to 13 years for killing rape suspect

The 47-year-old father of six was found guilty of committing an act causing death without lawful excuse. According to court proceedings, the victim had been identified through DNA evidence as a person of interest in a sexual assault case involving the defendant's daughter. The incident occurred in Tawau, Sabah, earlier this year.

During the trial, the prosecution presented evidence establishing a connection between the deceased and the alleged rape case. The defendant admitted to the altercation but claimed he acted in defence of his family's honour following the alleged assault. The court, however, determined that his actions exceeded the bounds of lawful self-defence.

Justice noted the circumstances of the case, including the defendant's family situation and background, but found the evidence of guilt compelling. The 13-year sentence reflects the severity of the offence while taking into account mitigating factors presented by the defence. The sentence is subject to potential appeal.
