Indus Towers targets 100,000 solar installations by fiscal 2029

Indus Towers is charting an ambitious renewable energy roadmap, with plans to deploy solar installations across 100,000 sites by the end of fiscal year 2029, according to company leadership. The expansion represents a significant scaling of the operator's existing renewable capacity and underscores the sector's shift toward cleaner energy alternatives.

Currently, Indus Towers operates approximately 300 megawatts of solar-generating capacity across its network. This existing renewable infrastructure enables the company to meet substantial portions of power demand at operational sites while offsetting reliance on traditional diesel-fuelled generators.

The strategic investment in solar capacity addresses a critical business challenge for tower operators: escalating diesel costs that have squeezed margins across the telecommunications infrastructure sector. By accelerating the transition to renewable energy, Indus Towers aims to insulate itself from volatile fuel price fluctuations while enhancing operational efficiency.

The telecommunications tower industry in India operates hundreds of thousands of installations across urban and rural regions, consuming significant electricity for continuous network operations. The sector's pivot toward renewable energy reflects both cost pressures and India's broader clean energy commitments under its climate action framework.
