Infant's death ruled blunt force trauma as caregiver held

An autopsy has determined that a 10-month-old infant died from blunt force trauma to the head while under the supervision of a babysitter at a Tasek Gelugor residence, police said on Tuesday.

The baby was brought to a hospital with injuries and subsequently pronounced dead. Medical examination revealed the fatal injuries were consistent with blunt force impact, prompting police to launch a criminal investigation.

Penang police have remanded the caregiver for seven days to facilitate further questioning and evidence gathering. The case has been classified as causing death by negligence pending completion of investigations.

The incident has raised fresh concerns about childcare standards and supervision protocols in private home-based care arrangements across the state. Authorities have not ruled out additional charges as the investigation progresses.
