Infantino dismisses resignation speculation, cites global backing for reelection bid

FIFA President Gianni Infantino downplayed concerns about his position on Wednesday, brushing aside questions regarding whether he had contemplated resigning following the failed FIFA Forward Enterprise proposal.

Infantino pointed to what he characterised as overwhelming backing from member associations globally, suggesting the setback would not derail his reelection ambitions. The FIFA Forward Enterprise scheme, which sought to reshape the federation's financial distribution model, faced significant opposition from member federations before being withdrawn.

Despite the initiative's collapse, Infantino sought to project confidence in his leadership and continued support within the FIFA membership. He emphasised the international nature of his backing across the confederation's various regions.

The FIFA president's comments come as he prepares for upcoming elections, with his reelection campaign expected to gain momentum in the coming months. His remarks suggest the organisation is moving past the controversy surrounding the failed proposal.
