Influenza outbreak confirmed in 46 Ipoh schoolchildren
Health authorities in Perak have identified 46 students infected with influenza following health screenings and assessments conducted in the state. The cases were detected among symptomatic pupils at schools in the Kinta district.

Perak State Exco Member A Sivanesan disclosed that the influenza cases were confirmed through health screenings and medical assessments of 61 symptomatic students by the Kinta District Health Office through September 14.
The screening programme was implemented to identify respiratory illness cases among the school population in the district. Of the 61 students who presented symptoms and underwent evaluation, 46 tested positive for influenza, indicating a localised outbreak affecting multiple educational institutions.
State health authorities have not disclosed additional details regarding the specific schools affected or the ages of the infected students. The Kinta District Health Office is expected to provide further guidance to schools on preventive measures and infection control protocols to contain the spread of the virus.
The announcement comes amid ongoing concerns about respiratory illness transmission in enclosed environments such as schools.
