Interdicted Sri Lankan parliamentary official gains recognition at Mexico conference
Chaminda Kularatne, the interdicted Chief of Staff and Deputy Secretary-General of Parliament, has been invited to present research on Sri Lankan legislative governance at a major international parliamentary workshop in Mexico City.

Chaminda Kularatne, a Senior Attorney-at-Law and interdicted Chief of Staff of the Sri Lankan Parliament, participated in the UNAM–IPSA RC08 International Workshop titled "Parliaments in the Global South: Challenges and Transformations" held in Mexico City on 6–7 October 2026.
Kularatne presented research focusing on parliamentary democracy and legislative governance frameworks within Sri Lanka's political system. The workshop brought together scholars, parliamentary officials, and governance experts from multiple nations to examine institutional challenges and reform trajectories across developing democracies.
The international platform provided an opportunity for Kularatne to contribute Sri Lankan perspectives to broader discussions on parliamentary effectiveness and democratic strengthening in the Global South. The presentation underscored ongoing scholarly engagement with Sri Lanka's legislative structures and constitutional frameworks.
The workshop was organized by the University of Mexico's Institute of Social Research in collaboration with the International Political Science Association's Research Committee 08, which specializes in parliamentary studies and comparative legislature research.
