KUALA NERUS, Aug 23 — International students enrolled at Malaysian educational institutions are generating approximately RM20 billion annually for the country's economy, new figures reveal.
With roughly 167,000 international students currently studying in Malaysia, each student contributes an estimated RM10,000 per month to the national economy through tuition fees, accommodation, living expenses, and consumer spending.
The substantial economic contribution underscores the significance of Malaysia's higher education sector as a revenue generator and demonstrates the country's competitive position as a regional education hub. International student enrolment has emerged as a key driver of economic activity in education-dependent communities and urban centres.
These figures highlight the importance of maintaining Malaysia's appeal to overseas learners through quality educational offerings and student-friendly policies. The education sector continues to play a critical role in the nation's economic diversification and growth strategies.
