PAGADIAN CITY — Police arrested a tricycle driver in Zamboanga del Sur on Sunday evening following an incident at a security checkpoint that nearly resulted in harm to law enforcement personnel. The 51-year-old operator allegedly accelerated his vehicle in an attempt to evade the checkpoint and came dangerously close to striking two policemen stationed along the national highway in Barangay Tigbao.
The incident occurred in Tigbao town, where authorities had established a routine inspection point. According to police accounts, the driver demonstrated aggressive behavior when signaled to stop for routine verification procedures.
Capt. Derf Jay Maquinta, spokesperson for the Zamboanga del Sur Police Provincial Office, confirmed the arrest and indicated that initial investigations revealed the driver was operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. The exact charges filed against the suspect remain under review as authorities complete their documentation of the incident.
