IPCC Yet to Receive Complaint Over Alleged Activist Abuse

The Independent Police Conduct Commission has not yet received a formal complaint regarding allegations that an activist was subjected to degrading treatment while in police detention, according to Interior Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

Saifuddin said the IPCC stands ready to investigate any misconduct allegations should a complaint be filed. He emphasized that the commission would take appropriate action based on the nature and evidence of such claims.

The minister's remarks come as concerns have been raised about conduct during the activist's time in custody. Police procedures regarding detainee treatment remain under public scrutiny, with civil society groups continuing to advocate for strict adherence to detention protocols.

The IPCC, as Malaysia's independent body tasked with investigating police misconduct, typically acts upon receipt of formal complaints. Without a lodged complaint, the commission is unable to initiate its investigation processes.

The matter highlights ongoing debates in Malaysia regarding police accountability and the protection of detainees' rights during custody periods.
