The woman initially responded to what appeared to be a legitimate job advertisement online, leading her down a path that ultimately resulted in significant financial losses. After engaging with the fraudsters through various online platforms, she was subsequently directed toward an investment opportunity that proved entirely fictitious.
Investigations revealed that the scammers employed a multi-stage approach, first establishing credibility through the fake employment offer before transitioning to requests for investment capital. The victim transferred multiple payments totalling RM41,215 before realizing the nature of the fraud.
Authorities in Perak have recorded the complaint and begun preliminary investigations into the matter. Police remind the public to exercise caution when responding to unsolicited job offers online, particularly those promising unusually high returns or requesting upfront payments.
