Anurag Sujania, an IPS officer with the Madhya Pradesh Police, has stepped down from service following a brief tenure in his transferred posting. The officer's resignation comes merely four days after he was moved from his position as superintendent of police in Sagar, creating significant ripples within the state police establishment.
Sujania was transferred to the Bhopal Police Headquarters, where he had been assigned the rank of additional inspector general. However, the posting proved short-lived as he tendered his resignation on November 2 to the state government.
The transfer itself followed the death of 16 people in a toxic liquor incident in Banda. Sujania had been holding the Sagar SP position at the time of that incident, which appears to have prompted his relocation to the state headquarters.
While Sujania has attributed his decision to personal circumstances, the rapid succession of events—from the incident in his jurisdiction to his transfer and subsequent resignation—highlights the pressures faced by senior police officers managing major crises. The resignation adds another development to an already eventful period for the Madhya Pradesh Police.
