Iran pushes diplomacy despite Trump's rejection of peace overture

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi has doubled down on Tehran's commitment to resolving disputes through dialogue, signalling that military confrontation serves no party's interests in the volatile Middle Eastern region.

Araqchi's remarks come after Donald Trump rejected an Iranian proposal related to reopening channels through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical waterway controlling roughly one-third of global maritime trade. The foreign minister maintained that only through sustained negotiation can the fundamental differences between Iran and Western powers be bridged.

The Iranian position reflects a broader diplomatic strategy aimed at de-escalation, even as tensions remain elevated following months of tit-for-tat military exchanges.
