Iran's military establishment has hardened its stance on the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most critical shipping chokepoints, declaring it will remain closed pending US capitulation to Tehran's stated requirements.
Mohammad Akramini, a spokesperson for Iran's armed forces, underscored the military's resolve during recent remarks, emphasising that the closure would persist until American policymakers accede to Iranian terms. The statement reflects escalating tensions between the two nations over control of the strategically vital waterway through which millions of barrels of crude oil transit daily.
Akramini additionally cautioned that any resumption of American military aggression toward Iran would trigger an immediate and forceful Iranian response. The warning comes amid heightened regional volatility and underscores Tehran's readiness to defend against what it perceives as external threats.
The Strait of Hormuz remains a focal point of geopolitical tension, with Iran historically leveraging its geographic position as a negotiating tool. Control over shipping lanes through the waterway carries significant implications for global energy markets and international commerce, particularly affecting trade flows to Asia-Pacific nations including Malaysia.
