Islamic instruction providers must register as religious schools

The Majlis Ugama Islam Singapura (MUIS) has implemented a new requirement compelling providers of Islamic instruction to register as Muslim Religious Schools if they teach 10 or more students.

The provision, which came into effect on October 2, aims to ensure oversight and standardisation of Islamic educational services across the island. Organisations and individuals offering Islamic instruction must now comply with the regulatory framework established by MUIS.

The registration requirement is intended to maintain quality standards in Islamic education and ensure accountability among instruction providers. Those meeting the student threshold are expected to register with MUIS to formalise their educational operations.

The move reflects efforts by Singapore's Islamic authorities to regulate and supervise religious instruction in the community. Providers are advised to familiarise themselves with the registration process and requirements to ensure compliance with the new provision.
