Islamic jurisprudence must be comprehensive, says Perlis Regent

The Regent of Perlis emphasised the importance of adopting a comprehensive approach to Islamic jurisprudence in addressing modern challenges facing Muslim communities. Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail noted that religious rulings must take into consideration the varying perspectives among Islamic scholars as well as current social and economic circumstances. This integrated methodology, he suggested, would enable lawmakers and religious authorities to develop fatwas and legal positions that remain grounded in Islamic principles while remaining relevant to contemporary concerns. The Regent's remarks underscored the need for Islamic scholars to balance traditional jurisprudential foundations with pragmatic considerations when formulating responses to community issues. His statement reflects ongoing discussions in Malaysia's Islamic governance framework regarding how religious authorities can effectively address the needs of increasingly diverse and modernised Muslim populations while maintaining doctrinal integrity.
