Israel claims destruction of major Hezbollah tunnel network in southern Lebanon

Israeli defence forces announced the successful operation targeting what they described as a key Hezbollah tunnel complex in the southern Lebanese region. According to military statements, the underground network housed substantial quantities of weaponry and ordnance, including dozens of rockets and missiles supplied by Iran, representing a significant cache of military materiel.

The operation also uncovered hundreds of mines and explosive devices stored within the tunnel system, authorities said. The discovery underscores the scale of armaments accumulated in the border region, which has witnessed repeated tensions between Israel and the Lebanese militant group.

The announcement comes amid continued military operations in the area. Israeli officials characterised the destruction of the tunnel network as a strategic success in their efforts to counter what they view as threats to civilian populations in northern Israel.

Hezbollah and Israeli forces have maintained a tense standoff along the Lebanon-Israel border for years, with periodic flare-ups of violence. The group, which maintains a significant military wing, has long been designated as a terrorist organisation by Israel and several Western nations.
