Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz asserted on Tuesday that Iran remains committed to developing nuclear weapons despite two major military strikes launched by Israeli and US forces over the past year. Katz's comments underscore Tel Aviv's position that the aerial campaigns, which targeted Iranian military and nuclear facilities, have not fundamentally altered Tehran's strategic objectives.

The defence minister's remarks come amid heightened tensions in the Middle East, with Israel maintaining that Iran's nuclear ambitions pose an existential threat to the region. Israeli officials have repeatedly called for sustained pressure and continued military readiness against what they characterise as an active and advancing weapons programme.

Iran has categorically denied pursuing nuclear weapons, stating that its nuclear activities are confined to civilian and energy purposes under international safeguards. Tehran has framed the Israeli strikes as acts of aggression and has vowed to respond to what it views as violations of its sovereignty.

The dispute over Iran's nuclear intentions remains a flashpoint in Middle East geopolitics, with regional security concerns reverberating across international forums. The International Atomic Energy Agency has been tasked with monitoring Iran's nuclear activities, though disagreements persist over the interpretation of inspection findings and Iran's compliance with nuclear agreements.
