Israeli ad tech firm accused of targeting Starlink users for espionage
Digital security researchers have uncovered evidence that an Israeli advertising technology company was systematically targeting users of Starlink's satellite internet service in what appears to be a surveillance operation. The findings raise fresh concerns about cyber threats to global internet infrastructure.

Cybersecurity experts at a digital defense firm have identified what they believe to be a coordinated targeting campaign against Starlink users by an Israeli ad tech company, according to multiple sources with knowledge of the investigation. The apparent operation suggests an effort to compromise or monitor individuals relying on the satellite internet service, though the full scope and objectives remain unclear.
The discovery highlights vulnerabilities in emerging satellite internet networks that serve users in remote areas and regions with limited terrestrial broadband infrastructure. Starlink, operated by SpaceX, has rapidly expanded its user base globally, including across parts of Asia, making it an increasingly significant platform for internet connectivity.
The targeting campaign was identified through forensic analysis of network traffic and digital fingerprints associated with the ad tech firm's operations. Security researchers determined that the company had concentrated its efforts on Starlink's user base in what they characterised as more than coincidental targeting.
The findings underscore growing concerns among cybersecurity professionals about the weaponisation of commercial technologies for surveillance purposes. Experts have increasingly warned that satellite internet providers may face heightened security risks given their expanding role in global communications infrastructure and the difficulty of monitoring threats at scale.
Neither Starlink nor the Israeli company named in the investigation have publicly responded to the allegations. The matter is likely to draw scrutiny from international technology and security authorities examining cyber threats to critical communications systems.
