The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is preparing to launch the NVS-03 satellite on October 30 as part of efforts to strengthen and expand its indigenous navigation capabilities. The mission will mark the 20th operational flight of India's Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV), reinforcing the country's growing prowess in space technology.
The NVS-03 satellite forms part of ISRO's Navigation with Indian Constellation (NavIC) programme, which aims to provide accurate positioning, navigation and timing services across India and the surrounding region. The satellite will be placed in geostationary orbit, where it will remain fixed relative to a point on Earth's surface.
Once operational, NVS-03 will enhance navigation services for multiple sectors including railway networks, road transport and maritime operations. The satellite will augment the existing constellation of navigation satellites, ensuring improved coverage and signal reliability for both civilian and commercial applications.
The GSLV programme has established itself as a critical component of India's space infrastructure, enabling the deployment of heavy satellites without reliance on foreign launch services. With this mission, ISRO continues to advance India's self-reliance in space-based navigation systems, reducing dependence on international positioning networks.
