India's space agency successfully launched the EOS-05 Earth observation satellite on Wednesday, achieving a key objective in expanding the nation's indigenous imaging capabilities in geosynchronous orbit. The satellite reached its intended sub-geosynchronous transfer orbit approximately 18 minutes after lift-off, according to ISRO.
At 2,367 kilograms, EOS-05 is the heaviest Earth observation satellite developed by India to date, representing an advancement in the country's technological prowess in satellite design and launch capabilities. The satellite's placement in geosynchronous orbit will enable continuous monitoring of a fixed region on Earth, making it particularly valuable for applications including disaster management, weather forecasting, and environmental assessment.
