ITAK MP calls on Canada to review LTTE designation

Jaffna MP Sivagnanam Shritharan has appealed to Canadian Conservative Members of Parliament to initiate a review of Canada's designation of the LTTE as a banned organization, according to reports of meetings held on Parliament Hill in Ottawa.

During discussions with Canadian legislators, Shritharan raised the long-standing dispute over the LTTE's proscribed status in Canada, where the organization has remained listed as a terrorist entity for nearly two decades.

The ITAK representative also requested Canadian parliamentary support in obtaining forensic expertise for investigations into the Chemmani mass grave site in northern Sri Lanka. The initiative reflects ongoing efforts by Tamil political representatives to secure international assistance in documenting alleged atrocities.

The meetings represent continued diplomatic efforts by Tamil parliamentary representatives to engage with international governments on issues related to accountability and the legal status of organizations connected to the island's decades-long civil conflict.
