Italian footballer Maldini loses licence after drunk-driving crash

MILAN - Italian soccer player Daniel Maldini has had his driving licence suspended after authorities determined he was over the legal alcohol limit when involved in a car crash in Milan early Sunday, according to local police.

Milan police confirmed the incident on Monday, stating that Maldini was found to have exceeded permissible blood-alcohol levels following the accident. The suspension of his driving privileges was issued as a result of the findings.

Maldini, who plays for AC Milan, was not reported to have sustained serious injuries in the crash. The incident marks a notable violation of Italian traffic regulations, which carry strict penalties for driving under the influence.

The player now faces legal proceedings related to the drink-driving offence. AC Milan has not yet issued a public statement regarding the matter.

Italian football authorities may also review whether further disciplinary action is warranted in relation to the incident.
