Italy to deploy warships safeguarding Red Sea shipping corridor

Italy's defence minister has warned of severe economic consequences should the Bab al-Mandeb strait become impassable, prompting the country to move forward with independent military deployment to ensure safe passage through the vital waterway linking the Red Sea to the Arabian Sea.

The Bab al-Mandeb strait serves as one of the world's most crucial shipping lanes, with thousands of vessels annually transiting the narrow passage between Yemen and Djibouti. Disruptions to traffic through this corridor would significantly impact global trade flows and European supply chains, the Italian defence ministry indicated.
