ITBP bolsters capabilities amid China border tensions in Arunachal

The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) is undertaking a significant capacity expansion along the border with China, amid ongoing tensions in Arunachal Pradesh. The paramilitary force is prioritising faster deployment of personnel to contested areas of the Line of Actual Control (LAC), a development that reflects India's commitment to maintaining security in the sensitive frontier region.

According to operational plans, the ITBP intends to procure approximately two dozen Quick Reaction Force Vehicles (QRFVs) to accelerate troop mobility in challenging terrain. These vehicles are designed to enable swift movement of armed personnel across difficult mountain passes and remote areas, reducing response time during contingencies.

Beyond vehicle acquisition, the force is concentrating on comprehensive modernisation of its operational infrastructure. The emphasis includes enhanced drone surveillance capabilities, deployment of counter-drone systems to detect and neutralise unmanned aerial vehicles, and specialised training programmes for personnel stationed along the LAC. These measures underscore the ITBP's focus on technological advancement and tactical preparedness.

The upgrades come as India continues to manage border security concerns following recurring face-offs between Indian and Chinese forces along the LAC. The initiatives reflect a broader strategy to strengthen operational effectiveness and reduce vulnerability in remote border areas where geographic challenges have historically complicated rapid-response operations.
