Iyer calls for improved execution as India face series decider vs West Indies

India's chase fell short at 223 for nine in 19.3 overs as they chased West Indies' total of 247 for three, with Arshdeep Singh forced to retire hurt during the innings. The defeat leaves the five-match series evenly poised heading into the decider at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Skipper Iyer acknowledged that poor bowling execution proved costly in the encounter. "It all started with bowling. We didn't execute our line and lengths well and when you're chasing 250, you have to go about it in a certain pattern," Iyer said after the match.

While appreciating India's approach during the chase, the captain pointed to lapses in the bowling department as the primary factor behind the loss. "I liked our approach during the chase, but we were unfortunate that we couldn't execute our plans with the ball, and that's where we fell a bit short," he added.

Iyer credited West Indies for their superior execution and for capitalizing on the conditions. The visiting batsmen made effective use of field placements while the wicket provided additional assistance. India will look to regroup before the series-deciding encounter in Bengaluru on Saturday.
