The Jammu and Kashmir government has officially notified its Electric Vehicle Policy 2026, marking a significant step toward promoting cleaner transport in the region. The policy provides subsidies of up to ₹15 lakh on vehicle purchases, aimed at accelerating the transition to electric mobility across the union territory.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah commended the policy initiative, saying it would establish necessary infrastructure to advance green transportation in Jammu and Kashmir. Transport Minister Satish Sharma and the transport department were credited with bringing the policy to fruition.
The scheme is expected to incentivize residents to shift away from conventional fuel-powered vehicles, addressing environmental concerns while promoting sustainable urban and rural mobility. By reducing the financial barriers to electric vehicle adoption, the policy seeks to lower emissions and improve air quality across the region.
The initiative aligns with broader national efforts to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles in India. Officials expect the policy to drive demand for e-vehicles while contributing to the government's climate and environmental objectives in Jammu and Kashmir.
