J&K Lieutenant-Governor inaugurates annual Harmukh-Gangbal pilgrimage

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant-Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday inaugurated the Harmukh-Gangbal pilgrimage, one of the region's significant religious expeditions. The sacred yatra, which traverses through the high-altitude terrain of Kashmir, attracts devotees from across the country seeking spiritual fulfillment.

Sinha described Harmukh as the 'abode of Lord Shiva,' underscoring the mountain's religious importance in Hindu tradition. The pilgrimage connects devotees to the revered Gangbal alpine lake, situated at approximately 13,500 feet above sea level, which holds considerable sanctity in regional religious practices.

The Lieutenant-Governor emphasized that the yatra embodies values of purity, devotion, and unity in diversity, reflecting broader themes of religious harmony. Officials noted that the pilgrimage season draws numerous trekkers and pilgrims who undertake the challenging journey through Kashmir's mountainous landscape.

The flagging-off ceremony marks the beginning of the annual pilgrimage season, which traditionally sees increased footfall during the summer months when high-altitude routes become accessible. Local administration has reportedly coordinated arrangements to facilitate smooth passage for pilgrims undertaking the sacred journey.
