Professor Subha Shankar Sarkar, who was tasked with heading the inquiry committee into the incident at Jadavpur University, has stepped down from the role. In his communication to the institution's vice-chancellor, Sarkar cited logistical constraints as the reason for his decision to withdraw.
Sarkar, who is currently based in Delhi, noted that the nature of the investigation would necessitate regular on-campus interactions with witnesses and others present during the incident. He informed the university administration of his decision immediately after learning of his appointment to the position.
The Jadavpur University administration has acknowledged the resignation and indicated that it would proceed with identifying a new committee head to oversee the inquiry.
