Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, has come out in defence of Citadels of Justice Party (CJP) leaders currently held in judicial custody, prompting a strong rebuke from the ruling BJP.
CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke acknowledged Reddy's support in a statement, expressing gratitude for the intervention. The development marks an unexpected show of solidarity between the YSRCP leader and the CJP amid ongoing legal proceedings against party officials.
The move has not gone unnoticed by the BJP. BJP leader Satya Kumar Yadav questioned the timing and consistency of Reddy's stance on electoral processes, pointing out that the YSRCP had secured 151 seats in the 2019 state assembly elections. Yadav's remarks suggest the BJP views Reddy's current criticism as opportunistic, given the electoral success his party enjoyed in the previous election cycle.
The exchange underscores the ongoing political tensions in Andhra Pradesh, where questions of electoral integrity and the treatment of political rivals continue to shape state politics. The CJP's legal troubles have become a point of contention between regional and national political players competing for influence in the state.
