Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has alleged that violence and irregularities marred voting in the state's local body elections, prompting calls for re-polling in affected areas.

The elections are being conducted across 92 urban local bodies, including 13 municipal corporations and 79 municipalities and nagar panchayats. The voting exercise represents a significant electoral exercise ahead of broader state-level contests.

Reddy's allegations of electoral misconduct have intensified scrutiny on poll management and voter safety during the exercise. The YSRCP chief has demanded that election authorities take cognizance of reported incidents and consider re-polling where violations occurred.

The poll body has not immediately responded to the allegations. Officials are continuing the electoral process while authorities assess reports of irregularities from various polling stations across the state's urban centres.

The outcome of these local body elections is closely watched by political observers, as they often serve as indicators of voter sentiment ahead of larger state and national electoral contests.
