Jai Raj Ispat launches large-scale greening initiative at Kurnool works

Jai Raj Ispat has announced a significant afforestation programme at its manufacturing facility in Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh, as part of its environmental sustainability efforts. The company plans to plant 6,450 saplings over the next quarter, targeting greenery expansion within and around its operational premises.

The plantation drive will prioritise two hardy plant species well-adapted to the region's semi-arid conditions. The effort will include 4,300 Bougainvillea plants, commonly known as Thimma in local parlance, alongside 2,150 Nerium Oleander saplings. Both varieties are recognised for their resilience in high-temperature environments and low water requirements, making them suitable for the Deccan plateau landscape.

The Kurnool facility's greening initiative aligns with increasing industry focus on environmental stewardship and carbon footprint reduction. Manufacturing units across India have increasingly undertaken such programmes to enhance their ecological credentials and contribute to regional afforestation targets.

The three-month timeline suggests the company aims to complete the planting cycle before the onset of summer conditions, when survival rates of newly planted saplings typically decline in the region. Such initiatives have become standard practice among large industrial establishments operating in water-stressed areas of south India.
