Jaishankar heads to US for G20 and Quad diplomatic engagements

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is set to depart for the United States this week to participate in high-level diplomatic engagements focused on two key multilateral initiatives. The visit will include attendance at the G20 Foreign Ministers' meeting, where India will engage with fellow member nations on issues of global economic importance.

Simultaneously, Jaishankar will hold consultations with Quad partners—the United States, Japan, and Australia—to coordinate ahead of the Quad leaders' summit planned for November. These preparatory discussions are expected to shape the agenda and outcomes of the forthcoming gathering of the four Indo-Pacific democracies.

The diplomatic calendar reflects India's active role in stewarding the G20, which will conclude with a summit in December. Officials indicated that discussions during the Foreign Ministers' meeting may touch on South Africa's exclusion from the G20 engagement process by the United States, a development that has drawn regional attention.

The visit underscores India's commitment to advancing multilateral cooperation on regional security, economic governance, and strategic coordination with key democratic partners in the Indo-Pacific region.
