Jaishankar, Rubio review bilateral ties at G20 summit sidelines

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar held talks with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio during the G20 summit, discussing the breadth of India-US bilateral cooperation and shared regional interests. The meeting, held on the sidelines of the multilateral gathering, underscored the continued priority both nations place on their strategic partnership.

During the discussions, Jaishankar and Rubio took stock of ongoing collaboration across defence, trade, technology and people-to-people exchanges. The two officials also exchanged views on regional developments and global challenges facing the two democracies.

Rubio's recent visit to India saw him affirm America's commitment to its relationship with New Delhi. The US Secretary of State made clear that Washington's diplomatic engagements with other countries, including Pakistan, would not be pursued at the cost of its deep ties with India. This reassurance comes as the US seeks to balance its interests across South Asia while maintaining its strategic focus on India as a key partner in the Indo-Pacific region.

The bilateral relationship between India and the United States has strengthened significantly in recent years, encompassing cooperation on defence technology, intelligence sharing, and coordinated efforts on regional security matters. Both nations have emphasized their shared commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific, stable global supply chains, and countering transnational threats.
