India's External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is set to take the podium at the UN General Assembly's annual high-level General Debate on September 26, as the 81st session of the world body convenes in New York.
The General Debate, one of the most significant platforms for diplomatic engagement at the United Nations, will run for a week from September 22 to 28. During this period, heads of state and government representatives from all 193 UN member nations are expected to articulate their countries' positions on pressing global and regional issues.
The 81st session itself will formally commence on September 8, with the General Debate representing the centrepiece of the assembly's annual calendar. The week-long discourse provides nations an opportunity to address the international community on matters ranging from geopolitical tensions to sustainable development and climate change.
Jaishankar's address will come as India continues to play an increasingly prominent role in multilateral forums, advocating for the concerns of the Global South while advancing New Delhi's strategic interests on the world stage.
