Jamia to hold student union elections within 15 days of constitution nod

Jamia Millia Islamia has mandated that student union elections be conducted within 15 days following approval of the union's constitution, according to an official order issued by Registrar Md Mahtab Alam Rizvi on Monday.

The directive comes as the university moves to resolve tensions stemming from ongoing student protests. In a significant reversal, the institution has withdrawn suspension and show-cause notices that were issued to students during the agitation.

The university's decision followed consideration of demands placed by student representatives, including those engaged in a hunger strike. The administration has agreed to these core demands as part of efforts to ease the standoff on campus.

Additionally, the registrar's order provides for the constitution of a committee tasked with investigating the conduct and actions of security personnel during the protest period. The inquiry is expected to examine whether appropriate protocols were followed in managing the demonstrations.

The moves represent a conciliatory stance by the administration toward student concerns and indicate a commitment to restoring normalcy at the university through dialogue and institutional reform.
