Japan backs Vietnam push to strengthen equity market efficiency

Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has initiated a capacity-building programme designed to strengthen Vietnam's equity market infrastructure and regulatory framework. Commencing in 2024, the Technical Cooperation Project for Promoting Efficiency of the Vietnamese Equity Market represents Japan's continued commitment to supporting financial sector development across Southeast Asia.

The initiative targets the State Securities Commission (SSC) and Vietnam's stock exchanges, providing technical consultations and training activities to enhance operational efficiency. Through the programme, Japanese experts will work alongside Vietnamese counterparts to identify best practices and implement improvements in market regulation, surveillance, and settlement systems.

Vietnam's equity markets have expanded considerably in recent years, attracting growing domestic and foreign investment. Strengthening regulatory capacity and operational efficiency remains critical as the market matures and trading volumes increase.

The cooperation aligns with broader JICA initiatives across Vietnam, complementing ongoing projects in infrastructure development, disaster risk management, and urban services. Japanese development assistance continues to play a significant role in Vietnam's economic modernization efforts.

Details on the project timeline and specific deliverables are expected to be released in coordination with Vietnamese government agencies overseeing capital market development.
