Japanese trading house Itochu acquires Hitachi Construction Machinery Taiwan unit

Itochu Corporation, one of Japan's largest trading companies, has completed the acquisition of Hitachi Construction Machinery's Taiwan-based sales and after-sales service division. The transaction strengthens Itochu's position in the regional construction machinery sector, where demand remains robust across multiple Southeast Asian markets.

The purchase encompasses Hitachi Construction Machinery's existing sales network, service centers, and trained workforce in Taiwan. Through the acquisition, Itochu gains direct access to Hitachi's established customer base and distribution infrastructure in one of Asia's key industrial economies.

Hitachi Construction Machinery has been streamlining its regional operations in recent years as part of a broader strategic restructuring. The divestment of its Taiwan unit allows the company to focus resources on core manufacturing and product development while maintaining its equipment presence through new distribution partnerships.

Itochu operates an extensive machinery and equipment trading division across Asia-Pacific, serving construction, mining, and industrial sectors. The Taiwan acquisition adds to the company's growing portfolio of infrastructure-related assets in the region, positioning it to capture increased construction activity driven by ongoing urbanization and infrastructure development initiatives.

Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed. Industry analysts expect the move to create operational synergies and improve service delivery capabilities for construction equipment users throughout Taiwan and neighboring markets.
