Japanese triathlete Hojo claims opening gold at Asian Games
Takumi Hojo of Japan has secured the first gold medal of the Asian Games triathlon competition, completing the sprint distance event in under 53 minutes. The victory marks a strong start for the Japanese contingent in the multi-sport discipline.

Hojo powered through the three disciplines to finish the 750-metre swim, 20-kilometre bicycle ride and 5,000-metre run in a winning time of 52 minutes and 56 seconds at the Asian Games.
The Japanese athlete's commanding performance saw him cross the line ahead of China's Zhang Xirui and Kazakhstan's Arlan Zhanabay, who claimed the silver and bronze medals respectively.
The sprint triathlon format, combining swimming, cycling and running, has become a core event at the Asian Games. Hojo's medal represents an early success for Japan's team in the Games competition schedule.
