A.P. Rangannath, fielded by the JDS as the NDA coalition candidate, won the Bengaluru Teachers' constituency seat in the recent Legislative Council election, defeating Congress incumbent P. Putanna.
The election was conducted using ballot papers rather than electronic voting machines, marking a significant procedural difference from most other polling processes in Karnataka.
Following the NDA victory, JDS leaders seized on the outcome to challenge opposition arguments about election integrity. Nikhil Kumar, a senior JDS functionary, directed remarks at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, questioning the latter's previous assertions regarding EVM reliability and allegations of paper ballot tampering.
The result underscores ongoing political tensions in Karnataka between the ruling coalition and opposition parties over electoral processes and voting mechanisms. The ballot paper-based election has added fresh dimensions to the debate over election administration in the state.
