Police in Kota confirmed the death of a Class XI student on Wednesday, who was discovered in his accommodation in the Mahaveer Nagar-I locality. The boy, originally from Shivpuri district in Madhya Pradesh, had migrated to Kota approximately half a year ago to focus on competitive examination studies at one of the city's numerous coaching institutes.
The student's body was recovered from his hostel room following a preliminary investigation by local authorities. Police have registered the incident and initiated standard procedures, though detailed circumstances surrounding the death remain under examination.
The incident underscores ongoing concerns about student mental health and psychological pressures associated with intense entrance examination preparation in Kota, which has emerged as a major hub for aspirants preparing for India's most competitive engineering and medical entrance tests. Educational and mental health experts have repeatedly flagged the stress and isolation experienced by students relocating to coaching centres, often far from their families and support networks.
Kota has witnessed multiple such incidents in recent years, prompting calls for enhanced counselling services and mental health awareness programmes targeting student populations preparing for competitive examinations.
