Stellantis, the multinational automotive conglomerate, is exploring opportunities to source new Jeep sport utility vehicles from China as part of its broader production strategy. The Italian-American company and Dongfeng Motor Corporation plan to establish manufacturing of two off-road-focused Jeep models at a facility in Wuhan, with production expected to commence in 2027.

The initiative reflects Stellantis' approach to optimising its global supply chain and manufacturing footprint. By tapping into Dongfeng's established capabilities and China's automotive infrastructure, the company aims to develop competitive products for emerging markets. The Wuhan facility represents a significant investment in the partnership between Stellantis and its longtime Chinese collaborator.

While the production plans have been confirmed, the Indian market has not yet been officially designated as a destination for these vehicles. India remains a key growth market for automotive manufacturers, with strong demand for sport utility vehicles. Should these models eventually be introduced to Indian consumers, they would join Jeep's existing lineup, which currently includes the Compass and Wrangler variants assembled locally.

The move underscores how major automotive groups are reconfiguring their manufacturing networks to meet evolving market demands and cost considerations. For Jeep specifically, expanded access to competitively-produced models could enhance its market positioning in price-sensitive regions across Asia.
