Jets owner Woody Johnson stakes claim in Formula 1 outfit Aston Martin

Woody Johnson, owner of the New York Jets and a stakeholder in English Premier League side Crystal Palace, has purchased a minority stake in Formula 1 team Aston Martin, the organisation announced. While financial details of the transaction remain undisclosed, the British racing outfit said Johnson—a former United States ambassador to the United Kingdom—will direct his efforts toward "commercial growth, especially in the United States."

Johnson's appointment to Aston Martin's board of directors as vice chairman positions him as an influential voice in the team's strategic direction, though he will not be involved in day-to-day operational management. The structure mirrors similar arrangements in other sports properties where high-profile investors bring capital and business acumen without assuming executive responsibilities.

Lawrence Stroll, Aston Martin's executive chairman and controlling shareholder, will continue to oversee management of the racing operation. Stroll characterised Johnson's involvement as a significant strengthening of the team's position as it enters a new competitive chapter. "His deep appreciation for our brand, combined with his commitment to innovation and commercial opportunity, makes him an ideal partner as we look to the future," Stroll said.
